Overview

This training is required for teachers and EAs who are new to teaching in a state funded NM PreK classroom. Teachers will be introduced to the PreK Observational Assessment Tools; receive tips for using authentic observations to document and plan for appropriate learning experiences; and explore how to create supportive environments for young children.

1. Reviewed the role of the NM Early Childhood Professional Development System and identified the resources you have available to you as you implement the NM PreK Program Standards.
2. Practiced using the Continuous Quality Improvement Process.
3. Identified ways to reframe language to improve educator/child interactions.
4. Created next steps to provide a supportive social emotional environment for young children.
5. Linked observations to Essential Indicators.
6. Assessed your own strengths and challenges in using the AODCP process.
7. Examined how play works in the daily classroom schedule.
8. Practiced writing lesson plans, focusing on sections of the lesson plan that you find challenging.
9. Assigned rubric ratings to match a child’s developmental skill level.
10. Reviewed sample documentation on collection forms.
11. Reviewed portfolio and quick look recording sheets and name how these forms connect to the AODCP process.
12. Determined the assessment due dates for your program.
13. Linked rubric and indicator language to the Family Teacher Summary Report form
14. Viewed examples of various ways to collect required documentation and select a strategy to use.
