Overview
This course is designed to emphasize evidence-based practices for supporting children who are culturally and linguistically diverse, inclusive practices and strategies for overcoming biases to build trusting and collaborative partnerships with families. This course is a required training for early childcare professionals, in both urban and rural settings, who are working in a 4- or 5-star FOCUS TQRIS program.
THIS IS A HYBRID COURSE. Online classes will be held via ZOOM web conferencing, a computer with microphone and webcam is required.
Objective
Objectives:
•
Heard the definition of the Full Participation of Each Child, explored the New Mexico Guiding Principles, and reflected on your personal culture
•
Reviewed the components of professional development, used a self-assessment tool to reflect on your current practices, and identified an opportunity for growth to improve the quality of your practice
•
Reviewed respectful and responsive strengths-based approaches and identified ways you can use these approaches to support a partnership with families as you consider all perspectives.
•
Utilized a strengths-based approach to reframe interactions with children and explored strategies to support children using the 4 Elements of the Full Participation of Each Child
•
Explored components of an anti-bias learning community, developed a plan for your classroom environment, and discussed how to address cultural dilemmas in the classroom.
•
Reflected on the importance of intentionally planning for children and planned for children based on the 4 Elements of Full Participation.
